Continual improvement in Environmental Management Systems
PE shares a drive for continual improvement with many its clients and has recently been engaged by one of Queensland’s fastest growing civil contractors to assist the company with developing its environmental management system. The company holds current JAS-ANZ certification across its quality, environmental and OHS systems, however it has elected to change certifier as part of its system improvement program.
Key contributions by PE have been critical analysis of the company’s environmental aspects and impacts, establishment of environmental targets and objectives, operational controls and staff competency and training.

Tamborine-Oxenford Road Upgrade, Wongawallen, Queensland
PE has been engaged as the Principal Contractors environmental consultant for the $7.5 M upgrade of an unsafe section of Tamborine-Oxenford Road south of Brisbane.
The project involves road realignment and replacement of existing culverts at Tamborine Creek and Wongawallan Creek which are identified habitats for the rare and endangered Green-thighed Frog and other significant fauna. The alignment also intercepts areas of significant cultural value.The Construction Environmental Management Plan prepared by PE focuses on providing project management with a clear and concise understanding of environmental risks, control measures, and statutory compliance and reporting requirements.

Other Projects

Sand Extraction Project, Woongoolba, Queensland
PE undertook the environmental consultation and supervision of the planning, construction and operational phases of the sand extraction facility and operation.
Located on the Logan River and producing 160,000 tonnes per annum, the environmental aspects of the project were diverse and complex involving an extensive planning approval process, strict compliance requirements, acid sulfate soil, surface water and groundwater management, construction of compensatory fish habitat, and a comprehensive soil and water monitoring program.

Western Corridor Recycled Water Project, Luggage Point, Queensland
Environmental advice and supervision, and soil and water monitoring services were undertaken during construction of a 9 kilometres section of twin 900 mm HDPE pipeline.
Challenges on this project included an intensive construction program, compliance with strict conditions of approval, and issues relating to construction within both sensitive wetland, and busy industrial environments.

George Alder Tennis Centre Redevelopment, Ipswich, Queensland
A comprehensive Construction Environmental Management Plan was prepared and implemented for this major earthworks and construction project.
An integrated management strategy addressing acid sulfate soil, soil and groundwater contamination, large scale dewatering was developed by PE who supervised implementation of the plan and provided all soil and water testing, and validation.
